Slayer of Dragons

~When He comes I'll know Him,
And exactly what I'll say,
He won't be imaginations whim,
But real shining like the day.~

~Here in this tower,
The fortifications weak,
I'm captive to the power,
Of Dragons that speak.~

~They grant me my desires,
The follies of my heart,
With images that aspire,
Yet are each a deadly dart.~

~When they come,
There's a rasping at the door,
I know they've won,
Before their footsteps touch the floor.~

~For my towers frail!
My windows barred with straw,
Compared to the iron nails,
That adorn each dragons claw.~

~Then upon the horizon,
There springs a shining star,
I see coming with dawn a Holy One,
I feel a grasp from afar.~

~See how the bar holds fast?
I'm safe inside,
Perhaps dangers past,
Then something flies by - jaws open wide.

~Running to my window,
I feel the dragons fire,
"Come to me" he roars, "lest ye learn woe!"
The white knight is riding cross the mire.~

~The dragon turns to face Him,
Fury written on his face,
"I'll rip you limb from limb",
He declared, beginning to pace.~

~"This one is mine,
I will claim her now,
So twas written before time,
No longer to you will she bow".~ (So the knight sayeth...)

~The brave words rang true,
From my knight and Lord,
And quickly the reigns He drew,
While in his hand was naked sword.~

~The fearsome clash of battle,
Louder than an oceans din,
Made my tower rattle,
As I cowered within.~

~There had been other knights,
Each arrayed splendidly,
Yet none had won the fight,
Or taken from the dragon my towers key.~

~In my heart I truly knew,
That this was finally He,
Come, to run the dragon though,
And set my captive spirit free.~

~~Ride on to victory!
May your sword stike true,
I have perfect faith in thee,
And in all that you do."~

~Three hours they fought,
And as evening drew near,
A mighty blow my knight wrought,
And His victory was clear.~

~Bloody and stained, with heaving chest,
He stooped over the slain beast,
Taking the key he had gained,
From around its ruby red chest.~

~The knight turned and looked up,
Straight into my watching eyes,
He mounted and stood in stirrup,
While urging His horse forward past the rise.~

~The key turned in the lock,
And gently He came in,
"Come to my castle, I am its rock
I have thrown down your stronghold of sin."~

~I wept at His feet,
"Thank you dear Lord God,
Come in and take your seat,
Be crowned with glory and laud."

~Note; This is not a depiction of Christ the sacrifice for our sins, but in fact is an allegory of how strong sin can take root in us and only Christ can fully crush it - sanctifying us in the process. I wrote this a few years ago while struggling with sin and feeling very oppressed, it was a cry to my Savior to rescue me.

Bearing in Love

Bearing in Love

( A poem I wrote sometime ago, dealing with our need to love and forgive one another in this race we are all on!)

"There once were two runners,
Both running the same road,
Friendly, with loving words,
Till troubles and dirt arose."

"Then one despised the other,
And took a different path,
To avoid the brother,
Who had caused him much wrath."

"There's too much dust and mud,
kicked up by that other man,

Every time he falls - I begrudge,

So now I've a better plan."

"I've seen him run to the side,
So I'll run the other way,
This trails easier, and plenty wide,

For my emotions to play."

"By and by another friend,
Ran up alongside,
I think I've started another trend,
The hurt man said with pride."

"How long will you run here?"
The newcomer asked,
"Just a little while, never fear,
Only till the obstacles passed."

"You're right, I like going around,"
Replied another, with them joining,
"Its much easier than up and down,
As for that
big sinner, we'll be praying."

"Soon the road was full,
"Hey, what's this all about?"
The first man saw friends pull
Each other, and shout -"

-"Lets start another trail,
I won't run by you,
Your clothes smell stale,

We hate the things you do."

"Its not my own doing!
I'm just what I am,
Circumstances came wooing,
That's why this course I've ran!"

"The hurt man saw a child,
Upon a storm swept sea,
Which next to his path raged wild,
She began to sink with glee."

"Girl take my hand,
I'll love you as my own!"
She replied, "I already am,
The child of your self righteous tone!"

"Oh my God," the man cried,
Striving to free his hand,
Yet in vain he tried,
But was caught in sinking sand.

"Turn back and run to the narrow way!"
The child pleaded,
"Destroy me by what you say,
To the one you once needed!"

"Hard and grueling was the task,
Of getting back on the right road,
"Why did I ever leave His path?"
Said he, dragging the child's heavy load."

"At last he stumbled upon,
The right and true road,
Stretching straight and long,
He was reaping what he'd sowed."

"There was the man,
Who had wronged him dreadfully,
Kneeling before a Lamb,
Who was nailed to a tree."

"The hurt man knew the sight,
It was familiar and dear,
But he understood more this night,
When forgiveness was clear."

"God does not make me wait,
He understands my need,
He entered hells gate,
To show me forgiveness by deed."

"Christ who had a right,
Redeemed me while I was in my sins,
I didn't even see my plight,
Or know the danger I was in."

"This miracle of mercy,
Took place before my birth,
Yet He planned for me to see,
While knowing my empty worth."

"I ran and knelt beside,
My once sworn enemy,
Letting go my pride,
One with him to plea."

"Forgive me God, my sin,

Pride, lust, anger, betrayed trust!
Embracing as we felt within,
Amazing grace blow and gust.

"My child's grip loosened,
She faded away,
In her place glistened,
Offspring of the day."

"She was beautiful and fair,
Strength and grace around her shone,
I am your answered prayer-
-Borne of Christ's righteousness alone."

"She now runs between us,
My brother and I call her -
-Love and Forgiveness-
The fruit of our cure."

"When the way is dusty,
Christ's grace shines brighter,
Through Him we are free,
To hold each other tighter."

My Dying Heart

I have loved the Lord in a perfect way,
But my body is so far from heaven,
Fresh experiences and sparkling days,
The secret burdens won't lessen.

Two conflicting hearts beat within my chest,
One longs for spiritual joys and meaning,
The other empty worldliness,
And the church bells still ringing.

I'm looking at a face, and it's mine,
I can't describe the coldness, no heartbeat,
"God rest her soul" is the line,
Bloody water covers me head to feet.

Someone I was has just died,
There wasn't enough room inside,
But to keep me alive I was crucified,
With a lamb on a cross in a river wide.

I'm looking at His face, the agonizing pain,
Etched in the heat of hell and fiery sand,
Two bloody pools like guilty stains,
Drip from the mans outstretched hands.

And all around Him the sea is crying,
Great tears that sting the salty wounds,
Slowly, Gods Son is dying,
His heartbeat is the only sound.

All the while I feel almost dead,
My bed is in the midst of the sea,
The water climbs above my head,
His right hand holds me.

The heartbeat stops,
I'm gasping for air,
"My God, my God, are you there?"

Suddenly I'm ethereal without care,
Blinded by swift lightnings glare.
A single heartbeat in me grows,
And it longs for the slain lamb,
Who took all my fleshly woes,
Into His great I AM.

Lo the heart that beats within,
Is fashioned after His own,
Paid is my steep debt of sin,
By a Savior on Heavens throne.

Up from the waves we wildly burst,
Resurrected from ashes of deathly night,
Dried up is my well of worldly thirst,
The one who lives is Christ. "

Lauren East

"I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?" Romans 7:22-24

"There are three that bear witness on earth; the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one." 1 John 5:8

"I have been Crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20

"If I ascend into heaven, You are there. If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me." Psalms 139:8-10

"Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?...We were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead to the glory of the Father, even so we should also walk in the newness of life." Romans 6:3-4

"For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin." Romans 6:5-7

Poetry by a Christian Prisoner

Here's another Voice of the Martyrs email I found very encouraging! What a beautiful testimony for Christ, to write love poems to Him in prison, while enduring unimaginable sufferings. May God give us the strength to be faithful to the end like this faithful brother, and to overcome our trials in a way which transforms the soul into a perpetual feast of love for our great God and Savior.

Dumitru Bacu was a Christian prisoner during the 1950s and 1960s. Like so many others, his crime was simply being a Christian. Dumitru used his twenty years in prison to compose poetry of love to God. The poems were carefully written in small bars of soap or tapped through the walls in Morse code so that others could learn and pass them from cell to cell.

“The pains which weakened our bodies were not able to master our hearts,” Bacu said after his release. “Instead of hate, we cultivated love, understanding, and wisdom.” Here is one of his poems, composed in solitary confinement in a cell infested with rats, bedbugs, and lice: Jesus appeared in my cell last night; He was tall; he was sad, but oh he was light. The moonbeams I treasured grew suddenly dim As, startled and happy, I looked upon him. He came and he stood by the mat where I tossed And silently showed what his sufferings cost. The scars were all there, in his hands and his feet, And a wound in his side where his heart did beat. He smiled, and was gone. And I fell on the stone And cried out, “Dear Jesus, don’t leave me alone.” Clutching the bars, I was pierced through the palms: Blessed gift, blessed scars.

Happy Valentines Day! (late that is...)

It's good to be on my feet again, well, I'm almost on my feet again :) It takes a while to get back into the rhythm of things when you have been out of commission. Thanks for all the prayers everyone! Here is the long promised Poem for Valentines Day, "There's Only One". I hope you enjoy it and are encouraged! Lauren Ashley

Valentines Day is coming!

In honor of one of my favorite holidays I have changed my blogs appearance. It is temporary and will revert to its original layout when February 14th has passed. Our family has the tradition of decorating paper bags and putting our valentines to each other in them. Sometimes it can become quite an elaborate affair! I especially enjoy coming up with creative ways to say "I love and appreciate you" each year. Its fun to see all the different styles we come up with, some people prefer glitter - others not. Most of us like stickers though. This year I have put together a special valentine for all you girls out there. Its a special poem about Jesus Christ our true Bridegroom, and about saving your heart for your knight - not all the knaves and "perhapses" that waltz your way. Instead of just posting it I have made it into a slide show with a colorful "fairy tale" theme. I'll be posting it next week, before Valentines Day because I want it to take advantage of the "girlie" background while its up. Below is a sneek peek picture!

A poem for encouragement

Unwearying Spirit

Now finally I am broken Lord,
And here I am, I can't even stand.
You'll have to feed me Word by Word.
And carry me into the promised land.

"Teach my soul all it should have known,
Years and years ago,
There's just so many things I don't understand,
Explain, teach and show!

" I've got scars on my fingers,
As surely all can see,
The memory of them lingers,
Of wounds suffered for Thee.

"Teach my soul all it should have known,
Years and years ago,
There's just so many things I don't understand,
Explain, teach and show!"

The road is so dusty I want to give up,
But my feet keep on treading Your way,
I have drank the dregs of misery's cup,
But You give me the power to stay.

"Teach my soul all it should have known,
Years and years ago,
There's just so many things I don't understand,
Explain, teach and show!"

A love that defies prisons coldest bars,
And a heart that keeps beating in pain,
Wounds being reopened, yet not leaving scars,
Jesus make me worthy of Thy Name.

"Teach my soul all it should have known,
Years and years ago,
There's just so many things I don't understand,
Explain, teach and show!"

The Pages of my Bible

The Word

The pages of my Bible are dirty and grey, And honestly I love to have them that way, Every dark stain has a story to share, Of sorrows and hopes, conviction and prayer. The man whose Bible is crisp and clean, Has not beheld anything worth being seen, A life that's well lived is measured in use, By the way God's used him and his Bibles abuse. Do you treasure the Word of your Father? Martyrs blood, prophets bond, Spirits labor, Jesus life, our song and salvation, The seed and growth in tribulation. This is the fire which burns in the night, This is the comfort in times of fright, This is the only book that's really alive, You can read it through but never arrive. This is the Word of God, Never stop reading....

A long one! "Mountain -top vision"

Young man of strength,
Seek the Lord always,
His arm is without length,
There is no number to His days.

"I am lost, O God,
My nature far to sinful,
The wilderness of Nod,
Is my habitation and rule."

"Why redeem a wretch like me,
Or hang for my sake upon a tree?
I cannot keep Thy perfect law,
It rubs and scrapes me 'till I'm raw."

"See my black heart,
Look upon my marked brow,
Stained with sin's dart,
Disfigured and proud."

"Smell my reeking breath,
Know my debase mind,
Transparent now awaiting death,
Neither first nor last of Adams kind."

"Though You can deliver,
Use in me in Your quiver,
Why spare this empty vessel,
Or take away my smell?"

Upon the dark ground,
I beat my breast sore,
Here at last I've found,
David's words of yore.

Psalms 44:15-16 "My dishonor is continually before me, and the shame of my face has covered me, because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles, because of the enemy and the avenger."

I looked up to see,
A light of great brightness stream,
Upon my face, around me,
And I walked as in a dream.

A thundering shore miles below,
The mountain I stood on,
So tall and full of woe,
Across the sky spread a red dawn.

As I stood and watched,
I wept tears of ice,
A wind blew, lightening flashed,
The world listened to the storm cries.

I could not stand straight,
My back doubled and bent,
While thunder boomed late,
'Till my strength was all spent.

"Where are You Lord?
I Know that You're there,
O give me a word,
Show me You are near!"

But the Lord was not wind,
He was not the storm,
 They came to an end,
While I writhed like a worm.

I got up, it was noon,
The mountain was swept clean,
Naked, I felt that gone was sins rune,
On my head it was not seen.

Once more out upon the shore,
I bent my swollen eyes,
Hearing the waters rushing roar,
Knowing I had no disguise.

Lamentations 1:14 "The yoke of my transgressions was bound; they were woven together by His hands, and thrust upon my neck. He made my strength fail; the Lord delivered me into the hands of those whom I am not able to withstand."

Suddenly the mountain trembled,
Rocks began to fall,
The red sky now had cooled,
Grey fog covered all.

The stoning broke my bones,
I felt each jar and pound,
The despair Satan readily loans,
Again place in my heart found.

"I cannot see You,"
My foaming lips screamed,
"What do You want me to do?"
And blood from my back streamed.

The mountain top, my glorious seat,
Began to crumble and break,
The earthquake happy to greet,
The rubble its forces did rake.

It all passed away,
And as broken on ruins I lay,
My spirit cried out,
And humbly did I shout.

"Just like the wind, Yahweh,
You are not the earthquake,
Continue to crush this hard clay,
Though this proud heart may ache."

Now it was late evening,
But I could not this time stand,
Above the stars wanted to sing,
I turned my head towards the sea and sand.

If I could only rest,
Have time to lick my wounds,
Then I would not be comfortless,
And find heart to sing old tunes.

But the Lord had other plans,
For my sanctification was not complete,
The full race I had not run,
But only lay with weary feet.

A scorching heat seared my flesh,
As the sun and planets burned,
God is the only witness,
To the lesson I then learned.

Not a blade of grass,
Or tree upon the earth,
Was left unburned by surging brass,
And now dust knew its worth.

My eyes melted under heat,
My stomach wretched up smoke,
The fire moved forward to a steady beat,
As I gasped and choked.

"You are not the flames God,
But now I understand,
You sent them as Your rod,
They chastise by Your hand."

The raging fire stopped,
As had my beating heart,
From the cliffs face I dropped,
Scorched and blackened dark.

I felt a mouth breath air,
Into my faltering lungs,
A tiny whispering voice was there,
By its small noise my heart was wrung.

I opened my mouth to sob,
"Are You there my God, My God,
My eyes are seared shut,
I cannot see, I am not worthy to see Thee."

I heard footsteps walking,
Away, then back again,
Salt water was sprinkled, cleaning,
My cuts, and I knew a friend.

Gentle hands touched my eyes,
"Look up and see,
I Am One Who cannot lie,
I have always been with thee."

I looked and saw morning light,
White gulls crying loud,
The air was tingling, heavenly bright,
My weary head I bowed.

Lamentations 3:22-23 "Through the Lords mercies we are not consumed, because His compassion's fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.

I uttered Jeremiah's praise,
Not daring to look up,
Who can understand the Lords ways?
Seas boil, mountains erupt.

Isaiah 51:22 "See I have taken out of your hand the cup of trembling, the dregs of the cup of my fury, you shall no longer drink it."

"You are my son,
So I redeem you,
Look up and come,
You are cleansed and new."

"I have given you what cannot be shaken,
And taken away that which could,
You faith in Me will not be broken,
By and through Me all things are ruled."

"The Enemy would have you doubt,
That Serpent of old, Satan,
I have not let him cloud,
Your vision, now stand."

" Wind, earthquake, fire,
Lucifer in demonic attire,
My tools to break and build,
Exactly as I have willed."

Hebrews 12:5-6 "My son do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son He receives."

"My Lord I see,
But why save a wretch like me" ,
I broke forth with heaving sigh,
"Why not just let me die?"

"I have mercy on whom I will,
None are worthy not one,
All steal, covet, desire and kill,
None are worthy but the Son."

"Take a debt you cannot repay,
You are enslaved to sin no longer,
Behold the coming of a new day,
And the One whose righteousness you wear."

I raised my eyes heavenward,
Then towards the ocean spray and breeze,
I saw a Man, the Living Word,
Outlined upon the mighty seas.

"Once you were blind,
Your ears were deaf,
Now you will find,
Your pains have all left."

"For your soul that was lost,
And your heart that was dead,
I paid the dreadful cost,
And died in your stead,"

"But since you are mine,
I rooted out pride,
And after a long time,
To self you died."

"I died for you,
Now you live for me,
That I rose is true,
And I set you free."

"Take My hand, redeemed child,
You are weary and have cried,
Walk upon the waves so wild,
Only by Me will your tears be dried."
  I ran stumbling to Him,
My shelter and my Savior,
Until my feet were at the oceans rim,
And I stepped in faith upon the water.

Without sinking my eyes straight ahead,
I ran and fell in His arms,
He lifted and fed me heavenly bread,
Free from the worlds alarms.

"Not with water but blood,
Did I you wounds tend,
Even a mighty worldwide flood,
Could not within thee cleanse."

"The Little voice, my Jesus,
Who did to me speak,
And comfort the comfortless,
Was it the Holy Spirit when I was weak?"

"Yes, We are a Holy Trinity,
Three in One, One in Three,
Now you shall arise and tell,
Who I Am, remember well."

"Only my blood of sacrifice,
Poured out freely for thee,
 Could pay the awful price,
And at last set you free."

I awoke upon my bed,
Drenched with countless tears,
Springing up I said,
"Gone are all my fears."

"In there stead I find,
That which cannot be shaken,
For I am His and He is mine,
When I sleep and awaken."

"On the Fourth"

On the Fourth

Are we proud as a Nation,
United under the sun,
Do we glory in what we have done,
And in the lengths we have run.

Or do we glory in Christ,
His unselfish sacrifice,
Does our identity in Him suffice,
When He has paid so high a price?

Whatever we have become,
Riches brought up to sum,
Its a blessing from above,
From the untold measure of His love.

Its not about ourselves,
How high we rise,
How deep we delve,
How we come up in size.

We are here for a purpose,
Known and planned by God,
We can't be more or less,
Because of the worlds applause.

Lauren East Note; I wrote this poem a while back, and what I think I was trying to get across then was this. We are citizens of Gods Kingdom, we have a heavenly home. Yes, we can be thankful for the peace and wealth God has blessed America with right now; and we can be patriotic. But to beware thinking "look how far we've brought ourselves", or to make our glory this country-or any country. We are to glory in Christ, in the cross; He must be our only boast. One of the things that really gets me is when I see a car sporting that notorious bumper sticker, "American Pride" or "The Power of Pride". It just goes to show how proud the American people are, when I see one of those bumper stickers I want to shout"Don't you know pride is the root of all evil?" Of course there is a good sort of pride, but it is different. I think we must judge the fruit, does your pride about America take you closer to the Lord with thankfulness? Or does it fill your head with vanity about our position in the world? Just things to think about today. Have a wonderful Fourth!

Abrahams Faith

Oh lift up your eyes,
Look ahead with faith,
The Lord our God is wise,
Through Him we run the race.

Oh lift up your eyes,
Sing a new song,
See the stormy sky's,
He has taken our wrong.

Living faith for He lives,
Throw off transgression,
By the power He gives,
Death defeated by the Son.

Beautiful Pain, Sanctifying Rain

Above me the somber sky so high,
Rages in storm-like waves,
If so cold my frame,
Why is my heart aflame?

There's a fire so hot its ire,
Sets alight the dampest heart,
The kindling's not of dwindling wood,
the flesh and bone of each martyr.

So I laugh at heavens stormy threatens,
For I am a child of my God,
I've been beckoned and covenantly reckoned,
Redeemed and sanctified by His mercy and rod.

Lo how the Son bursts forth as One,
With the father and Spirit, all three,
Brilliantly outlined for me to see,
In contrast to the past of darkness.

The clouds of gloom and dimness of fog,
Sharpen vision and scatter apparition,
Leaving the bones of truth and reality of God,
Rain that does not stain, pain that sanctifies.

The Great Physicians Bride

The Great Physicians Bride

Praise God all ye healers,
In His hands are strength and life,
Make Him the hearer of your prayers,
When undone by plight.

What a beautiful Savior to me,
Healer of mankind’s ills,
Unchanging in perfect constancy,
Great Physician of powerful will.

Hands that make broken whole,
Feet that pressed on to the goal,
Blood that makes white my soul,
Gods Self written role.

If I should die, t’would be gain,
For what have I to loose?
The Son of God has made it plain,
Why continue to muse?

Death is not my husband,
He lies crushed under Christ’s feet,
Arrayed in white shall be my end,
When my Maker I one day meet.

At what great price this peace,
Has come unto my heart,
His suffering knew no ease,
To paint His bridal art.

Jesus shall bring me home,
When this body’s done,
My soul will no longer roam,
But gladly cease to run.

By His infinite mercy,
I’ll be Christ’s holy bride,
Enraptured for all eternity,
Bound to His wounded side.

Our God gives us wedding clothes,
Perfectly fit to His body,
For He fashioned them by His woes,
And now covers our sin freely.

Who has a lover like this?
Tell me if you can?
Death can only shake his fist,
While on this rock I stand.

I want to be buried in white,
Bridal veil lifted above my eyes,
Signifying this brides first sight,
Of her husband who draws nigh.

When death comes twill be the usher,
Who leads me down the aisle,
The cleansing bath that prepares-
-The bride, is well known trial.

On earth our humble victories,
In Heaven He makes our crown,
By His sacrifice she breathes,
Who clasps close the wedding gown.

As “His Love” we’re beckoned,
Wooed by irresistible grace,
Among the Fathers children reckoned,
While held in the Sons eternal embrace.
